21 st Century Americans have a need to know and understand their Civil War history in this country. Knowledge is empowering" and the USCT Symposium '08 is the most powerful event of the year:
Why USCT'08?
To commemorate a legacy of courage, determination and bravery displayed by African Americans in the Civil War, especially the USCT.
To reunite good friends, historians, re-enactors, storytellers, educators, students and people of goodwill.
To establish a historical record of positive role models for the youth of the community in order to help build self-esteem, self-confidence and ancestral respect.
Why Wilmington?
The Wilmington Campaign was the beginning of the end of the Confederacy in 1865. Black Sailors and USCT Infantry contributed greatly to Union victories at Fort Fisher and Forks Road.
Why Now?
The annual Forks Road Re-enactment and Civil War Living History weekend provides an excellent opportunity to experience African American valor, courage and fortitude on the actual battlefield where it all happened.
